OnStar and StabiliTrak

These are the most innovative Northstar Series Cadillacs
ever: each a collaboration of sophisticated design, engineering, safety and communication features. The invigorating DeVille is tastefully restyled for 1997, and advances occupant safety with new side air bags. In addition, Cadillac announces the
optional
OnStar System. It places you in touch with an
array of convenience and security services through a ationwide cellular link. To help you maintain stability and control, Cadillac's Northstar System features
StabiliTrak: an
integrated chassis control system with stability
enhancement and road texture detection. You'll find it
on Seville STS, Eldorado Touring Coupe and DeVille
concours for 1997: a year destined to be the next great
benchmark in Cadillac's commitment to
create a higher standard.

Since its introduction, Cadillac's Northstar System has
consistently set higher standards in technology and
performance. Now, StabiliTrak establishes a whole new
measure of driver control. praised by a field of
automotive journalists,
StabiliTrak helps prevent
skids or loss of directional control through curves, on slippery surfaces or during severe steering maneuvers. It expands a
proven array of computer-controlled Northstar technologies
such as road-sensing suspension, anti-lock brakes, traction
control and Magnasteer variable assist steering. These marvels
of vehicle engineering afford the driver a reassuring new level of stability and safety. You must experience these capabilities to fully appreciate their advantages. Once you do, you will never settle for less.
Cadillac's StabiliTrak stability management system
epitomizes how innovative engineers can decipher
complex vehicle dynamics and help control them with
leading edge technology. In emergency avoidance
maneuvers or hard cornering on slippery surfaces such
as gravel, ice or snow,
StabiliTrack automatically
helps to stabilize the car. The process begins with a
network of electronic sensorsand computers. They
compare the driver's steering intention to the car's
actual direction. Once these sensors detect a discrepancy
between driver and vehicle,StabiliTrak
makes the necessary adjustments to correct your course,
by applying or releasing the appropriate front brake
instantly, smoothly and without hesitation. It is like
a gentle, reassuring hand guiding you safely back on track.

The advanced road texture detection technology found in
StabiliTrak
fine-tunes anti-lock brake and traction control performance. It results in
shortened distances by optimizing the available traction on rough surfaces.
It begins with a series of sensors at all four wheels. They feed data to the
on-board computer which calculates the texture of the roadway in stages,
from smooth to harsh. If slick surfaces are detected, the computer
regulates the performance of the anti- lock brake and traction
control systems to respond precisely to each condition…in
six-thousandths of a second! In addition, all front-wheel-drive
Cadillacs now have Magnasteer for a precise sense of control at high
speed and extra assist at low speed. It's all part of the feeling you
expect in every Cadillac.

+ Traction control (for winter use)
+ Northstar engine in both SLS and STS
+ Exellent Chassis control system in STS
+ Less expensive than 1998-onvards models
+ Last model usually best quality and value (inclusive options?)
